Have you ever stopped to think how a simple coin toss can change the course of a life. Can create a whole new life. Maybe a completely different world. For example, in a football game, it decides who chooses to kick or receive first. Almost always receive. An athlete can get injured on the first play or some time during that game that can change the course of his life. That coin toss will unfold a game completely different from the one on the other side of the coin. A player might become paralyzed for life changing who he will marry. The children he will have. What those children or their children will do could change the world. Maybe his back-up will become a starter and have a great season that will change were he plays in the future. That will change who he meets and who he marries and the children he has.
Many things could have prevented the existence of Hitler. But somewhere along the threads of time. Their was probably a coin toss that would have created an alternate reality, one without Hitler. I imagine many things have been decided by a coin toss. Who picks first in a childhood baseball game. Playing alongside someone, making an incredible double play that you will talk about for weeks. Maybe creating a friend for life, maybe a best friend who saves your life one day. Or maybe playing against that same child in the same game. Maybe you hit him with a pitch and get in a fight. He bloodies your mouth cause you have braces and your folks get all angry. There's a family feud and you become lifelong enemies. Your best friend that saved your life with a different coin toss. I'm sure people have decided who to hire or fire over a coin toss. Maybe who to kill or not to kill with the mob. Who plays first at a Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire concert. Who's gonna drive first on the trip to wherever. Each toss unfolding a different reality. In some cases deciding if you will live or die.
I once let a coin toss decide if I would marry someone or not. It decided that I wouldn't. Another reality, a different life, was waiting for me on the other side of that coin. Many things can alter and change the course of our lives and of this world. Many things that we can't really recognize. But a coin toss is a solid event. An obvious, concrete change of course that can alter and change life, reality, destiny. There is more power in a coin toss than we ever imagined giving it credit for.
